Nearly 38 hours into the Arrowhead 135, Ray Sanchez in battling with the inclement and frigid Minnesota weather.
With temperatures reaching -18 f below and pulling a 40-50 lbs self-contained sled, Ray is still going. Believing that his efforts create a huge awareness for the plight of children's lack of health care, Ray is running for a reason.
Layered with massive winter warm gear, Ray is currently (February 2, 2010) pressing towards the 110 mile marker, the 3rd and final check point. Seeking a finish under 60 hours, Ray will have completed back-to-back weekend 135 milers. He was in Brazil last weekend and finished 8th. He flew directly to International Falls, Minnesota and began to acclimate to the bone-chilling cold.
Ray is seeking to be the first Ultra Runner to complete the BAD 135 World Cup, a three-race series that links Brazil 135, Arrowhead 135 and Death Valley's Bad Water 135. Ray completed the desert run this past July, but is scheduled to run it again to tackle all three in a single calendar year.
As Ray continues to tackle the feats of endurance, his heart remains completely focused on the answers of why he runs.
I run for Be Change. After all, if you are going to run, run for a reason.
Go Ray.
